Or, choose a page to view below, come back, and choose another. More pictures, including more businesses, farms, and a selection of old and new homes, will be added in time as I am able to return and take the pictures. Start of Pictures:

In the first picture above, you are welcomed to
Strum, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin coming from the west on U. S. Highway 10. If you approach Strum from Eleva, Mondovi, Eau Claire, or the the Twin Cities of Minneapolis & St. Paul, Minnesota 100 miles west, you will drive/ride past this welcome sign which is perched nicely on a knoll to your right at the bend in the road just ahead of the city limits.

The sign was designed and built by David "Duke" Berg of Eleva, a grandson of Helfred Matson & Mary Garson who farmed south of Strum in the Town of Unity and who later also lived in Eleva and the Town of Albion.

A matching "Velkommen til Strum" sign welcomes travelers from the east. It is only 9 miles to Osseo and the I94 Interstate Highway that runs between Minneapolis & St. Paul and Chicago. You can experience Strum with only a small departure from I94 - about 7 total miles.

Traveling I94? Start your departure to Strum from Eau Claire or Osseo depending upon your travel direction.

If you are traveling north/west from the Chicago direction, exit I94 at Osseo and travel 9 miles west on U. S. Highway 10 to Strum. To return to I94 at Eau Claire, continue west from Strum 4 miles to Eleva and in downtown Eleva, turn right (north) at the Intersection of U. S. Highway 10 and Highway 93. Highway 93 runs north over the beautiful Eleva Ridge and directly into I94 at Eau Claire some 16 miles away.

If you are traveling south/east on I94 from the Minneapolis & St. Paul, Minnesota area, you will use the same highways to get to Strum and back onto I94 at Osseo. Exit south onto Highway 93 on the south edge of Eau Claire. Follow State Highway 93 up and down the hills for 16 miles. Just before Eleva you will be on the Eleva Ridge and have a beautiful panoramic view of the Beef (Buffalo) River Valley. At Eleva, turn left on U. S. Highway 10 and travel 3 or 4 miles to Strum. Along the way you will pass Eleva-Strum Central High School.

We can approach Strum from the north and south, of course, and those entrances on Trempealeau County D (from the north and south) and County H (from the south), to this fine community are as attractive. A drive on these county roads in either direction from Strum gives you a wonderful taste of the farming community and the rolling hills and valleys.

My father, Roy H. Matson, actively promoted the importance of clean and attractive entries to communities. He was a stickler for that. Current residents and leaders of Strum appear to agree with this assessment. And it doesn't hurt that over the years the area has had its fair share of artists and crafters who could help with the cause.
