Back to Start of Strum Tour
Before we proceed to downtown, let's take a birds view of the community. This picture was taken from the Eide Hill. U. S. Highway 10 is just in front of you. The intersection we just left is just past the silo on the right. St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery and former church location lies before you and Crystal Lake is just beyond. We are looking south or a bit southwest.

This vantage point, or close, was that used by someone to take a similar picture of Strum sometime between 1890 and 1897. That picture is on the cover of the book,
A History of Strum and the Town of Unity, written by my father, edited and printed by my brother. The picture is included in the Internet version of the book that you can access from the HOME page of this WEB site.

The Eide hill (there is much more of it to the rear of this picture) and the Garson hill to the east (left) of the Eide hill were probably the best winter sledding and skiing hills around when I was a kid. The old Strum grade school that still stands, but not as a school, is due right of the bottom right corner of this picture. More than once a kid would be a little late for school in the winter morning having gotten to the area early enough for class but with not quite enough time to also slide down the long Eide hill before school.
