| Note: We have the birth of my (Dianne Matson (Lisko ((Zieske)) ) great grandfather, Michael Zieske thought to be born 26 Sep 1847. The actual birth is 26 Sep 1846. The record is clear. The location of the birth is Ascherbude, Czarnikau, Posen, Prussia. This is Edward W. Zieske's father and his father's parents. Even with the 1-year discrepancy, other supporting information assures me that this is the correct Michael Zieske. The church record birth for this Michael Zieske is 26 Sep 1846. Only the year is off and only by 1 year. How that might be confused over time is any person's guess. One factor may have had an impact: Michael's father died when Michael was five years old and his sister, 8 1/2. The father is Gottlieb Zieske, the mother is Anna Rosina Arnd. This is a curious Arnd family connection because our Michael Zieske born 1846, later, in the USA, served in the Civil War in the same Company with a Frederick Arndt: Company "D", 38th Wisconsin Volunteers. Both boys/men joined the company from Princeton, WI where both were listed as farmers. Frederick Arndt went to Dodge County, Wisconsin after the Civil War and to our knowledge Michale Zieske born 1846 went directly to southern Minnesota. Frederick Arndt married in Dodge County, they had children there and later the family ends up in southern Minnesota right next to the southern Minnesota Zieske family group. In fact, a son, Fred Arndt, married Helen Zieske, granddaughter of Michael Zieske born 1816 & Anna Christina Schulz. Michael Zieske born 1816 is believed to be Michael Zieske 1846/47's uncle. I believe we now have sufficent proof of that. Michael Ziesle born 1816 and Gottlieb Zieske born 1813 are brothers. Ascherbude is only about 10km northwest of Putzig and is the residence of the father (Johann Zieske) of the groom, Michael Zieske 1816, at marriage to Anna Christina Schulz, in Putzig on 15 Apr 1842. Ascherbude is a small community, 131 people in 1905. No doubt far less than 500 people live in Ascherbude in 1846. In that year, there are 4 marriages; 20 births; and 6 deaths in the protestant church records of this community. There is no indication that the community is other than non-catholic. Here is my transcription of the Ascherbude church records for Wilhelmine Zieske and her brothers, Michael Zieske and Gottfried Zieske, and for their father's early death when Wilhelmine and Michael are still children: BIRTH: 1844 Feb 28; Bapt 10 Mar: Page 266 Line 3. Child: WILHELMINE. Father, Gottlieb Zieske; Mother, Anna Rosina Arnd. Witnesses: Rosina Blüm; Louisa Zieske nee ??(maiden name is not clear); Wilhelm Lübitz. Baptized in Ascherbude. Note: this is likely a sister of the Michael Zieske born 1846 record also for Ascherbude. We don’t know if this is our Michael. We know at this point only that the father (Johann Zieske) of Michael Zieske born 1816 (m. Anna Christine Schulz of Putzig), at Michael’s wedding in Putzig, had a residence of Ascherbude. This birth record was pursued based on a familysearch.org search result. FHL 0808117: Czarnikau Mixed Parishes (1844-1845): Ascherbude BIRTH: 1846 Sep 26; Bapt 27 Sep: Vol 1 (1846), Page 344: Line 15. Child: MICHAEL. Father, Gottlieb Zieske; Mother, Anna Rosina nee Arnd. Witnesses: Henriette Zieske; August Zieske; and Wilhelm Lubitz. Note: We cannot yet conclude that this is Michael Zieske born 26 Sep 1847 of the LISKO Zieske group. However, this is likely a brother of Wilhelmine, child, born 28 Feb 1844, also Ascherbude and same parents. This could be the nephew of Michael Zieske born 1816, this father, Gottlieb being the brother of Michael born 1816. Need proof that Gottlieb and Michael born 1816 have the same father, Johann Zieske, that is Michael 1816’s living father at Michael 1816’s marriage on 15 April 1842 in Putzig. Need to find more siblings of this child and more witnesses. FHL 0808118: Czarnikau Mixed Parishes (1846-1847): Ascherbude. BIRTH: 1849 Dec 12; Bapt 23 Dec. Page 272, 12th birth of year. GOTTFRIED.
