| This is Edward W. Zieske in 1924. This is a pocket copy of a much larger picture that has a proper place in our home. In fact, the enlargement hanging on the wall appears to have been touched up by hand. This pocket size picture is on the picture side of a post card The address side of the post card acknowledges that the picture was finished by H. F. Ankrum, Walnut Grove, Minnesota, where Edward and his wife, Margaret Rawlings, lived. The back of the the enlargement carries the date of 24 June 1924. Edward's suit is actually more a work uniform. On his right collar, is what appears to be the insignia of the railroad company he worked for: Chicago & North Western (C & N W). Edward W. Zieske, was a depot agent for this railway company. Edward was born 22 January 1872 to Michael Zieske & Wilhemenia Sonnenberg, German Immigrants. He married Margaret Rawlings on Christmas Day, 25 December 1906 in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. He died 28 December 1961 in Oakes, North Dakota. This man and his wife, Margaret, are the parents of my mother, Dorothy Lisko and her brothers and sisters. He is my grandfather. I was lucky enough to get to know him very well. Later in his life. Grandpa Zieske lived with us in Oakes, North Dakota and died on 28 December 1961, shortly after my sixteenth birthday. He was special! Because my grandmother died much earlier, 31 January 1945, nearly a year before I was born, I know her only from accounts by others. Dianne Margaret Lisko Matson granddaughter |
