| According to accounts, Anton Lisko contracted an eye infection in europe and could not travel to America with his wife, Mary Fisher and infant, Isidor. These passenger lists are proof that they traveled separately. It must have been difficult for Anton to watch his wife and only child leave for America without him. Anton arrived at Ellis Island seven days after his wife and child arrived. We don't know how they connected there. We do know that Anton, Mary, and Isadore Lisko made it to Dickinson, North Dakota where they raised their family and remained for the rest of their lives. The story goes that a young man traveled with Mary Lisko and infant, Isadore. He had lost his family. Pontele Soloneck volunteered to take care of Mary and child after Anton was denied travel. Pontele was younger than Mary and may have claimed to be her husband so they could travel as husband and wife. So far, we have been unable to see that connection in ship manifests. Mary and son, Isador traveled on the Ship Rotterdam (left); Anton traveled on the Oceanic (right): |
