This story starts in Oslo Far across the sea. It tells how one Norwegian Set his country free. Thor and Jens and Lars and Carl--- Four Swedes patrolled the street Until they saw young Haakon Planted firmly on his feet. And Haakon stood his ground, His face was growing red. He stared back at the Swedes And in Norwegian said, “Norway is for Norwegians and as sure as I’m alive The Swedish rule of Norway Will end in nineteen-five”. “So I’ll start a Norsk rebellion And I’ll set old Norway free. I can not stand my Swedish friends And the Swedes can not stand me”. The Swedes looked Haakon in the eye And stared at his Norske face. “Let’s not fight with this Norwegian, We’ll decide it with a race”. So up and down the coast they went. It was really quite a stunt--- The Norwegian chased the Swedes, The Swedes followed right in front. From Bergen to Stavanger, Narvik to Lilljehammer--- The Norwegian chased the Swedes In the winter and the summer. They found a herd of lemmings, Swede Thor was thinking quick--- “I’ll jump with them in the Arctic Sea And swim to Reykjavik”. Swede Jens was growing weary And he said, “Oh what’s the use--- I’ll go to Coopenhagen And get a chew of snoose”. |
