| The Sunbonnet Sisters Mariann (Matson) Berg & Carla (Matson) Nymo About 1934 |
| Do you recall this local singing group? Mariann Matson (left) and Carla Matson (right) grew up on a farm south of Strum. Their parents were Helfred Matson & Mary Garson. Carla and Mariann formed a local duet: The Sunbonnet Sisters. What they did is consistent with family music interest. Mariann and Carla used to play and sing for church doings, parties, anniversaries and such. They were also regulars on WEAU radio out of Eau Claire. Carla sang the melody and Mariann sang harmony and played the guitar. Mariann played piano with Ira Johnstad and also with the Klick Family Band. Each of these girls grew up, married, and stayed in the area. Mariann married Stanley Berg and they raised a family south of Eleva. Mariann exceeds thirty years as Eleva church organist; Carla married Erling Nymo and they lived in Strum where Carla sang and directed the church choir. |
