As you approach Strum from the West or East on U. S. Highway 10, you will see this one of a kind welcome sign. The sign fully represents the reception you will receive in this community.

This structure was built by my cousin David "Duke" Berg of rural Eleva, Wisconsin. My father, Roy Matson, would be proud of this production. He and Duke spent a fair number of hours together later in Roy's life talking woodworking. Someone knew how important it was to dad to have a clean and attractive welcome to Strum (or any community) from any direction. I don't believe dad lived to see this sign.

Duke's mother, Mariann Matson, grew up south of Strum and later, both she and her husband Stanley Berg, after having raised their family south of Eleva, returned to Strum to live in the Garson home east of town on U. S.
Highway 10.
