Hurdal Church & Cemetery February 2001, by Greg Gullicksrud PICTURES PAGE INDEX HOME |
Greg Gullicksrud reports that the snow covered tombstones contain the names of many Strum families. Greg took this picture in February 2001. The wall mounted cross and the baptismal font in this church date back to the 13th Century. Many of Strum's ancestors were baptized in that font that is still used in our day, according to Greg. I, Fred Matson, can attest to the names on these tombstones. I visited this cemetery in 1968 while in the army in Germany. I, too, immediately saw many names from Strum. Actually, of course, those Strum names are from Hurdal. I hadn't been home for about two years and when I set foot in this churchyard, I felt like I was in Strum. I was home!
