| The Story Of Helfred Matson & Mary Garson |
| completed most of this research. The children were: Olaus, Fredrika, Edvard, Nils, Even, and Antonetta. Of course, we know the most about Nils and will talk more about him later. Mary?s father and ancestors, at least those found, are exclusively from Hurdal Parish, Akershus Fylke, Norway. Mary Garson?s Ancestors on Her Mother?s Side Mary?s mother?s family genealogy, that of Hans Pedersen Frodahl & Marie Iversdatter Brendsaterstuen, is well documented. While I have no doubts about being able to dig back far in the history of the Garsons and ancestors, multiple Frodahl families settled in the Strum, Wisconsin area and that makes their research the least difficult. To my knowledge, Nils was the only Garson in Strum, though not the only Garson in America. His brother, Olaus, may also have been in the Strum area for some time. And we already know of Edvard. Nils Garson?s parents did not not come to America and of the children only Nils and maybe Olaus settled around Strum; Clara Frodahl?s parents came to America and settled around Strum, Wisconsin with their children. The impact of those decisions on our family is clear. Hans Pedersen Frodahl & Marie Iversdatter Brendsaterstuen were Clara Frodahl?s parents and Mary Garson?s grandparents. Hans was a brother of Johan who with his wife also settled in this area, Strum, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. The more I research our family the more I realize how significant a role the Frodahl family played in our family. My great aunts on that side did their best to educate me and other children of the importance of their family, but only when I began to delve into family genealogy did I realize the role this family played. This is not to sell any other branch of the family short. It is just the result, I believe, of the impact of a multiple member family settling in the same area, essentially remaining there, and raising their families there. Hans Frodahl and Johan Pedersen Frodahl were sons of Peder Hansen Frodahl & Siri Jensdatter Dyren. Peder Hansen and Siri lived and died in Norway. In the process they gave birth to seven children, one died at 2 years. It appears that they had 30 grandchildren. At least two of their children, Hans and Johan, and many of their grandchildren came to America. Three children of Hans Pedersen Frodahl & Marie Iversdatter Brendsaterstuen stand out in my family, and two more children of Johan Pedersen Frodahl & Hellene Christiansdatter have a special impact on my family and the Strum, Wisconsin area.
